Arsenal are reportedly set to improve their offer for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.
The 24-year-old featured in 36 games for Ajax last season, helping his side retain the Eredivisie title, with his performances attracting interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta's side have identified Martinez as their top defensive target, and they have reportedly already made an opening offer of £25m which was subsequently rejected.
According to The Express, the Gunners have made fresh contact with the Argentinian's representatives and remain in talks with the Dutch champions over the possibility of a deal, as they prepare to make an improved offer.
Ajax are not keen on selling Martinez, having already sold Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui to Bayern Munich, however, they could entertain an offer in the region of £40m.
The Argentine, whose current contract runs until 2025, has made over 100 appearances for Ajax, chipping in with six goals in that period.
