Manchester United will reportedly have to activate a £34m release clause if they wish to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.

Manchester United will reportedly have to activate a £34m release clause if they wish to sign Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig.

The 24-year-old midfielder has been an important player for the Bundesliga outfit this season, scoring five goals and registering six assists in 41 appearances across all competitions.

However, Laimer has just over a year remaining on his contract at the Red Bull Arena, which is understood to have alerted a number of top European clubs, including Man United.

According to Bild, via the Daily Mirror, Leipzig will only accept the departure of Laimer this summer if his £34m release clause is activated.

United may face competition to sign the Austria international as the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have also been credited with an interest.

Leipzig are also keen to fend off interest in star attacker Christopher Nkunku – another player who has been linked with Man United – with the club's CEO Oliver Mintzlaff recently stating that the Frenchman will not be sold this summer.
