Former Manchester City striker Niall Quinn has insisted that his old club could make some big summer signings in order to run Manchester United closer in the title race next season.
Although the title race is not yet over, City's win at Old Trafford on Monday night meant that they remain 12 points behind their City rivals.
Quinn said that should current manager Roberto Mancini stay in charge then he could make one or two "spectacular" signings.
"If Mancini is the right man, then I can see him adding one or two to the squad," Quinn told BBC Sport. "I'd say those one or two could be spectacular.
"I would imagine Manchester City's scouting network, regardless of who the manager is next season, is eyeing up the best of the best that may become available.
"You will also see them trade, and there might be one or two that go that might surprise some people."
Sergio Aguero came off the bench to bag City's winner on Monday night.
