Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly waiting for owner Mike Ashley to sanction a January move for Atlanta United forward Miguel Almiron.
The Magpies are said to have been working hard to secure the 24-year-old's services following the conclusion of the Major League Soccer season.
Almiron was voted runner-up in this season's Most Valuable Player award in MLS after netting 13 goals and setting up 11 more.
The Sun reports that Benitez's head of recruitment Steve Nickson has been in talks with the Paraguay international and his agent, managing to get a provisional deal in place.
However, it is claimed that Ashley must agree to hand over £15m to get a permanent move over the line for United's only major transfer target.
Ashley revealed earlier this week that he is in talks with a number of parties to sell Newcastle before the end of the year.
