Salomon Rondon goal downs Norwich City at Carrow Road

Salomon Rondon scores the only goal of the game as West Bromwich Albion claim a narrow win at Norwich City.

A goal from Salomon Rondon early in the second half has secured maximum points for West Bromwich Albion against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

The Canaries carved out the first chance of the afternoon in the fourth minute when Nathan Redmond lined up Wes Hoolahan in the box, but the latter's first-time strike missed the target.

West Brom almost took the lead through an unlikely source two minutes later as Chris Brunt's vicious effort from the edge of the box was tipped away by Norwich keeper John Ruddy at full stretch.

Norwich were back on the front foot in the 17th minute as Redmond tested Boaz Myhill from close range after Alexander Tettey saw his shot blocked by Jonny Evans.

Rondon almost opened the scoring for West Brom in the 30th minute as the club's record signing came within an inch of connecting to a Craig Dawson free kick to guide the ball home, and both goalkeepers had to be on high alert in the closing stages of the half.

Gareth McAuley tested Ruddy at one end of the park, before Myhill pulled off a reaction stop to keep out Jonny Howson two minutes before the referee brought the first period to a close.

The second half started with a bang as West Brom stormed into the lead with just two minutes played, James McClean playing a lofted ball into the box and Rondon meeting it with a bullet header to break the deadlock.

Norwich pushed hard for an equaliser and were only denied one by the good form of Myhill, who produced saves at the death to keep out Cameron Jerome and a powerful strike from Tettey.

The win moves West Brom up to eighth place in the table, while Norwich are down in 16th.
