Rochdale send Nottingham Forest out of FA Cup

Peter Vincenti scores the only goal of the game to guide Rochdale through to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Rochdale have dumped Championship side Nottingham Forest out of the FA Cup courtesy of a 1-0 win at Spotland thanks to a strike from Peter Vincenti.

Keith Hill's side were handed the chance to take the lead in the 12th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Vincenti took the spot kick and fired the ball past Dorus de Vries to put the home side ahead.

Rochdale almost doubled their lead when they hit Forest on the counter-attack as Callum Camps picked out Vincenti through the middle, but the forward could only fire his effort wide of the target.

The home side continued to threaten the Forest goal and De Vries was forced into action to save an effort from Joel Logan from outside the box as his low drive almost found the bottom corner.

Forest showed attacking intent for the first time in the match as Britt Assombalonga received the ball inside the box, but he drilled his effort straight into the hands of Josh Lillis.

Just before the break, Rochdale had an excellent chance to double their advantage but Matt Done failed to capitalise on a mistake from Jack Hobbs inside his own box as he allowed Danny Fox to deny him a certain goal.

In the second half, Forest tried to rally at the League One side and Lars Veldwijk came close as he latched on to a cross at the near post, but he could only guide his header wide of the post.

Minutes later, Assombalonga should have fired Stuart Pearce's men level as he raided upfield to be one-on-one with Lillis, but the keeper won the contest as he made a great stop to deny the striker.

Both sides threatened in the space of minutes as Chris Burke went close for the visitors as he fired narrowly wide with an effort from outside the box, while at the opposite end Done followed sit when he missed the target.

Forest pressed late in the game for an equaliser, but they failed to beat Lillis as the home side held out to secure their place in the fourth round of the competition.
