Cristiano Ronaldo had a chance to put the home side ahead 11 minutes into the match, but his curled effort was kept out by the crossbar.

However, the Portugal international broke the deadlock a minute later, picking up a Karim Benzema cross before launching the ball past Claudio Bravo.

Benzema found the target himself six minutes later, drilling the ball in low from a Ronaldo cross.

Ronaldo had a chance to add his second later in the half when Carlo Ancelotti's side were awarded a penalty after Markel Bergara handled the ball in the area, allowing the forward to covert from the spot.

Sami Khedira slotted home a fourth in the final 10 minutes of the first half, picking the ball up outside the box from Daniel Carvajal before drilling it in.

Ronaldo had a chance to complete his hat-trick in stoppage time, but his headed effort from an Alvaro Arbeloa cross was saved by Bravo.
