Cristiano Ronaldo: 'I changed role for more goals'

Real Madrid attacker Cristiano Ronaldo reveals that he has altered his game over the last few years in order to become a prolific scorer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed that he has altered his game over the last couple of seasons in order to become a prolific scorer.

The Portuguese international started his career as an out-and-out winger, but began to develop into more of a central attacker during the latter stages of his time with Manchester United.

Since arriving at Real Madrid in 2009, Ronaldo has been seen less and less in wide positions and his adaptation has seen him become the Spanish club's all-time leading scorer this season.

When asked by World Soccer how he has developed since the start of his career, Ronaldo said: "[I'm] different. I'm more of a box player, not so much a winger.

"Because goals are made inside the box and close to the goal, my position has changed a bit. The instinct for goal, as well, that's something you learn with experience.

"It's something that has come to me more naturally and that makes me happy. You can see the evolution that I've had throughout my career – since I began until today – and that is good for me. I've been evolving."

Ronaldo, 30, has scored 326 goals for Real Madrid since arriving at the Bernabeu from Man United.
