Mauricio Pochettino promises Artur Boruc backing

Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino gives his support to goalkeeper Artur Boruc following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has promised to back goalkeeper Artur Boruc following Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal.

The Polish keeper was at fault for Arsenal's first goal when he was caught in possession by Olivier Giroud before the striker rolled the ball into the empty net.

Despite Boruc's error, Pochettino insists that the player will be fully supported by everyone at the club.

"Footballers don't need to apologise to their own teammates, they can have amazing performances or they can have a bad day as happened today to Boruc," Eurosport quotes him as saying.

"From our point of view, we just offer our complete and 100% support for him, and keep talking to him, working with the entire team and moving on."

Southampton continue their Premier League campaign next Sunday when they travel to Chelsea.
