Eric Dier: 'Making my England debut was a dream come true'

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier tells of his pride after coming on as a substitute to make his senior England debut against Spain.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Eric Dier has spoken of his pride after making his debut off the bench for England against Spain.

The Three Lions fell to a 2-0 loss away on Spanish soil, but the 21-year-old holding man has told of his delight having made his first senior appearance for Roy Hodgson's side.

"It was nice to make my debut coming on at the same time as Dele [Alli] and hopefully in the future there will be more games alongside each other," Dier told Tottenham's official website.

"It's one of the aims you set out to achieve when you start your career so to have achieved it so early is a dream come true and a very proud moment for me and my family.

"Spain are a fantastic team with lots of players that I looked up to growing up so to watch them play and then come on against them wasn't the easiest way to make a debut, but a good way at the same time. It doesn't get much tougher than Spain and that is what you want to test yourself against both as a team and as an individual."

Dier has become an instrumental part of the Spurs side, scoring two goals in 11 appearances this campaign.
