Manchester United have reportedly decided to step up their pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric.
The Croatian playmaker has been linked with a switch away from White Hart Lane this summer, despite the 26-year-old signing a fresh long-term contract at Spurs last year.
While Tottenham would prefer to keep hold of their star player, they could be willing to accept a bid in the region of £40m but it is understood that the former Premier League champions will not lodge an offer in excess of £30m, according to the Daily Star.
Champions League winners Chelsea were the frontrunners to land Modric last summer but following the club's acquisition of Lille's Eden Hazard, it is unlikely that the Blues will enter the race to sign the Spurs midfielder.
