West Bromwich Albion 1-3 Newcastle United

Papiss Cisse scores two goals and creates another as Newcastle United take maximum points from their trip to West Bromwich Albion.

Two goals from Papiss Cisse helped Newcastle United to collect all three points from their trip to West Bromwich Albion this afternoon.

Newcastle's trio of goals all arrived before the break, with Hatem Ben Arfa adding to Cisse's brace.

Their first of the afternoon was scored in the sixth minute when Ben Arfa squared for the Senegal international, who stretched to strike the ball past West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster.

Cisse turned provider in the 12th minute, slotting a pass through for Ben Arfa to shoot left-footed beyond the reach of a diving Foster.

Newcastle's third of the afternoon arrived in the 34th minute. Demba Ba played in Ben Arfa, who in turn picked out Cisse to claim his fifth goal since joining Newcastle during the January transfer window.

The hosting Baggies had struggled to create goalscoring chances during the first half, but they pulled a goal back seven minutes after the restart. Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul was involved in a mix-up with defender Mike Williamson, allowing substitute Shane Long to capitalise and shoot into an empty net.

Long's goalscoring intervention failed to spark a comeback from the home side, who remain 14th in the Premier League table.

The match ended on a sour note for Cisse, as he was forced to leave the pitch on a stretcher with a leg injury.

The Magpies have moved level on points with Chelsea in fifth place as a result of today's win.
