West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere could miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury, according to a report.

West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere could reportedly miss the remainder of the season with an ankle injury.

Wilshere joined West Ham on a free transfer last summer following his release from Arsenal.

The 27-year-old featured in his team's first four matches of the 2018-19 Premier League campaign but has only played once since - a five-minute cameo against Newcastle United at the start of December.

According to The Sun, Wilshere is struggling to overcome the ankle injury that he picked up in training and a specialist 'is expected to confirm' that he will be unable to play again this season.

The Englishman had surgery on his ankle last September, but the recovery has not gone as expected and the report has claimed that he will be unable to return before the end of the campaign.

Once regarded as one of the country's biggest talents, a succession of injuries have seriously harmed Wilshere's career in recent years.
