Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay upbeat despite loss

Wigan boss Malky Mackay claims that his side could have avoided their 2-0 defeat to Watford with some better finishing.

Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay has refused to be downbeat following his side's 2-0 defeat to Watford in the Championship.

The Latics saw their survival hopes suffer a blow at the DW Stadium last night as they were beaten by the promotion-chasing Hornets.

However, Mackay believes that the hosts could have got something out of the game if they had a bit more luck in front of goal.

"I thought the first half was very nip and tuck; we had two terrific chances and I thought we then came out in the second half and started well but unfortunately we make a little mistake for their first goal," he told the club's official website.

"We've dominated a lot of the ball, 25 crosses into their box, but we've got to test their goalkeeper more and that's the same story - if we get a chance we need to take it but we didn't again. The galling thing is that I look at my team and they're playing well, they're on the offensive for the majority of the game."

Wigan are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Bolton Wanderers to the DW Stadium.
