Wolverhampton Wanderers will allegedly be signing Palmeiras star Raphael Veiga during the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly got a deal in place to sign Palmeiras star Raphael Veiga in January.

For the majority of the summer transfer window, Wolves were not in a position to acquire new talent, a consequence of their well-documented issues with FFP.

However, during the closing 48 hours of business, the West Midlands outfit secured deals for Enso Gonzalez, Santiago Bueno, Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

As a result of Manchester City signing Matheus Nunes for an alleged £53m fee, it appears highly likely that Wolves will be able to acquire further fresh faces at the turn of the year.

According to Os Donos da Bola presenter Neto, Wolves will be using some of that money to sign Veiga.

Reports earlier in the summer suggested that Veiga may have been on Wolves' radar, albeit with Palmeiras having a reluctance to sell the playmaker before the end of their current season.

The Brazil international has since gone on to enjoy a hugely-impressive campaign, contributing 10 goals and six assists from 24 top-flight and Copa Libertadores fixtures.

With the 28-year-old possessing a contract until 2026, Palmeiras do not necessarily have to be in a rush to cash in on Veiga at the beginning of 2024.

Nevertheless, in comments relayed by O TV Foco and reported by Sport Witness, Neto has indicated that Veiga will soon be plying his trade at Molineux.

Neto said: "Raphael Veiga will say goodbye to Palmeiras next year. He is going to Wolverhampton, and the transfer will be completed next year. If this doesn't happen, Palmeiras can criticise me at will.

"And to replace Veiga, Palmeiras have their eyes on a new midfielder, Pedrinho, currently at Atlético-MG."

Wolves already have two Brazilian players at the club in Joao Gomes and Matheus Cunha, while there are also five Portuguese players in the first-team squad that could theoretically help Veiga settle into life in England.

Having lost three of their opening four Premier League fixtures, Wolves occupy 15th place in the standings.
