Sam Tomkins says that England's 30-10 win over the Exiles last night was "perfect preparation" for the World Cup.

Sam Tomkins has said that England's win over the Exiles sends a message to their rivals ahead of the World Cup later this year.

Steve McNamara's side scored five tries in the 30-10 win yesterday evening as they prepare for the tournament, which gets underway in October.

The current Super League Man of Steel told Sky Sports News: "I think we got a massive amount out of it. It was perfect preparation. We needed to win to send a message and we did that.

"The mood is happy. We don't get to play too many games together so we've got to enjoy certainly ones like that when we've had a win. We're looking forward to moving on to the World Cup now.

"It was a good test in the second half. They probably played a little bit better. You've got to give them credit. They ran harder, they got in a few more offloads and they troubled us a little bit."

The Wigan Warriors man was the captain for the second half of the match, after Kevin Sinfield sustained a thumb injury.
