Ulster begin their Heineken Cup campaign with a home win over Clermont Auvergne.

Ulster have begun their Heineken Cup campaign with a 16-11 win over Clermont Auvergne in Belfast.

The French club took a five-point lead after five minutes when wing Seru Noa Nakaitaci raced behind the home side to the corner.

Ulster fly-half Ian Humphreys kicked his first of three penalties to the close the gap, before opposite number David Skrela kicked two of his own to extend Les Jaunards' lead to eight.

Just before the half, Humphreys added his second to reduce the deficit at the break.

The former Leicester Tiger made it three after the interval to pull the Ulstermen back to within two points of the visitors.

With ten minutes to go, substitute Adam D'Arcy put Humphreys clean through to score the home side's only try of the game. The 29-year-old's successful conversion extended the late lead to five to secure maximum points.
