Maria Sharapova will play Kaia Kanepi in the French Open quarter-finals after the Estonian triumphed 6-1 4-6 6-0 over Arantxa Rus at Roland Garros.
Kanepi comfortably won the first set against her 21-year-old Dutch opponent, who is ranked number 88 in the world.
Despite her inexperience in the latter stages of big tournaments, Rus responded by breaking twice in the second to level the match at a set apiece.
With the match evenly poised, 23rd seed Kanepi showed her superiority by taking the third set in under 20 minutes without dropping a game.
Kanepi will now play world number two Sharapova, who earlier beat Klara Zakopalova in three sets.
