Dominic Thiem has recorded a straight-sets win over Marco Cecchinato to reach his first French Open final.

Thiem suffered semi-final defeats in 2016 and 2017 but the seventh seed has given himself a chance to win a Major crown with a 7-5 7-6 6-1 win over Cecchinato.

The Austrian had the better of the opening two sets - with Cecchinato doing well to stay competitive - and the 24-year-old held his nerve during the closing stages of each set to move one away from victory.

Cecchinato began to wilt in the third - with a surprise run which has included wins over David Goffin and Novak Djokovic perhaps taking its toll - and Thiem was able to wrap up his success in two hours and 17 minutes.

Thiem will now face Rafael Nadal after the 10-time winner eased past Juan Martin del Potro.
