British number one Andy Murray has pulled out of next week's Madrid Masters with a back injury.
The Scotsman, who has one title to his name this season, will relinquish his fourth seed spot to Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga when the draw is announced tomorrow.
Murray released a statement via the official website for the Madrid competition, which said: "It is with regret that on doctors' advice I have to withdraw from the Mutua Madrid Open with injury.
"I always love coming to Madrid so it is a big disappointment. I look forward to returning next year and wish everyone a great week of tennis."
The British player is due to feature in Rome following the tournament in Spain's capital city.
