Ekaterina Makarova defeats Sara Errani to advance in Miami

Number 23 seed Ekaterina Makarova defeats number nine seed Sara Errani in three sets to advance to the fourth round of the Miami Masters.

Number 23 seed Ekaterina Makarova has advanced to the fourth round of the Miami Masters after a hard-fought win over Sara Errani.

Makarova began the match well and dominated the first set, earning a crucial break that allowed her to clinch it 6-3.

However, the number nine seed rallied in the second, matching Makarova's intensity from the first and breaking her twice to take it 6-2.

The 25-year-old found the form of the first set once again and just managed to edge out Errani to win the third 6-4 and earn her place in the fourth round in just under two-and-a-half hours.

Makarova will now face Angelique Kerber.
