Li Na has progressed to the fourth round of the Rogers Cup courtesy of a hard-fought 3-6 6-1 7-6[5] win over former world number one Ana Ivanovic.
Ivanovic made a good start to the match when she held her opening service game before breaking Li to take a 2-0 lead. Li hit straight back, however, breaking the Serb in the very next game.
Ivanovic broke again in the sixth game and it proved to be a vital break as she held on to her serve to take the set 6-3, although she did need four set points to finally seal it.
The Serb made a great start to the second set too, breaking Li in the very first game. She couldn't produce the same sort of form on her own service games however, losing all three as Li took the set 6-1 in under half an hour.
Once again, Ivanovic made a good start to the deciding set, racing in to a 3-0 lead. Li broke back in the ninth game to force a tie-break and the world number five edged a close contest 7-5 to book her place in the next round, where she will face either Roberta Vinci or Dominika Cibulkova.
