Wimbledon is considering a calendar change to begin the tournament three weeks after the French Open instead of two.

Wimbledon organisers are considering moving the tournament back a week in the calendar.

The proposed change would allow the top players extra rest in between the tournament and the French Open, two of the the sport's four Grand Slams.

There is currently two weeks between Wimbledon and the Roland Garros major, but the alteration of the date would give players a three-week break.

All England Club chief executive Richard Lewis said that the earliest the change could take place would be is 2014.

Former Wimbledon champion Leyton Hewitt has announced his support for the change.
