Alexandr Dolgopolov defeats Kyle Edmund in first round at Wimbledon

Great Britain's Kyle Edmund falls to a 7-6 6-1 6-2 defeat at the hands of Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov in the first round at Wimbledon.

Great Britain's Kyle Edmund has suffered defeat in his first-round contest at Wimbledon after falling to a 7-6 6-1 6-2 loss against Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov.

The contest began with real pace as Edmund looked to impress in his third appearance at SW19, and he made early inroads after coolly holding his own serve to take a 3-2 lead.

Back came Dolgopolov, however, as the top-ranked Ukrainian pushed his British counterpart to take the first set into a tie-break at 6-6, which he eventually claimed having been 4-2 down at one stage.

Dolgopolov continued to force the issue early in the second set as he broke Edmund's serve to make it 2-0, before moving largely unopposed to take the second set 6-1.

Faced with the mammoth task of having to win three straight sets, Edmund was unable to deliver in the final offering as he slumped down to 6-2 after losing the game on a backhand forced error.
