Ivan Dodig has advanced into the second round of Wimbledon after German Philipp Kohlschreiber was forced to retire in the fifth set with an unspecified injury.
The opening set brought just the one break of serve in the early stages as Kohlschreiber moved 1-0 ahead, before serving his way into a 2-0 lead. Dodig recovered in his next service game, but it was the German who moved into a one-set lead.
Both continued to serve well in the second, but it was Kohlschreiber who emerged triumphant from the tie-break to move into a two-set lead.
Another tie-break followed in the third, but this time it was Dodig who came out on top courtesy of a 7-3 score, before Dodig levelled it at two-sets-all courtesy of a 6-3 score in the fourth.
Both held their opening service games in the fifth, but Kohlschreiber was forced to retire after losing his next service game, allowing the Croatian to book his spot in the second round.
