Serena Williams has progressed into the second round of the Wimbledon Championships after defeating Barbora Zahlavova 6-3 6-4.
The American pro got off to a brighter start than her sister Venus, who fell at the first hurdle on the opening day at SW19 yesterday.
Williams demanded control of the court in the early stages and managed to claim a vital first break on Court 2, which led her to grab a one-set lead.
The second set was much of the same, with Zahlavova failing to force through an impact, despite her strong attempts, but it was Williams who secured a spot in the second round with ease.
