Mathieu Flamini eyes Premier League title

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini says that the signing of Mesut Ozil has given the club the impetus to challenge for the Premier League this season.

Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has said that the club are targeting an assault on the Premier League title this season.

Flamini returned to the Gunners on a free transfer in the summer window with Yaya Sanogo also arriving as a free agent, but it was the record-breaking signing of Mesut Ozil that captured the imagination at The Emirates.

The German international was signed on transfer deadline day for £42.5m and Flamini has said that the title is in the sights of all concerned with Arsene Wenger's side.

"Our ambitions are clear, as the arrival of Mesut Ozil has proved; to fight for the title and compete in the Champions League," Flamini is quoted as saying in The Mirror.

"We want to win trophies. The club has waited for them for too long. We have the means to compete for the title, even if we are outsiders, not favourites, like in 2007-08. That is my motivation, I want to write another beautiful story with Arsenal.

"I will never forget the match against Tottenham Hotspur which marked my return. After having spent four fantastic years here, I played for five years at AC Milan, but I had the feeling that I had never left, that I had never turned the page. I have unfinished business here."

Flamini made his return in their 1-0 win over fierce local rivals Spurs on September 1.
