Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil: 'No footballer is worth €50m'

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil claims that no footballer is worth €50m as transfer fees continue to soar.

Mesut Ozil has claimed that no footballer is worth €50m (£36.65m) as transfer fees continue to soar.

Germany international Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in a deal reported to be worth €57.8m (£42.4m) in 2013, but has said that footballers need to remain grounded.

"No individual around the world is worth €50m," he told German outlet Express.

"That's why in football we have to be careful to not lose our grip on reality and it is also important that, through the opportunities football offers, we do good and help."

Ozil has been criticised for a number of his performances since joining the Gunners, despite scoring 12 goals and providing 25 assists in 79 appearances.
