Arsene Wenger questions Southampton kickoff time

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is unhappy that his side have to play in the early kickoff on Sunday, less than three days on from their latest Europa League outing.

Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is unhappy with the lack of recovery time afforded to his Arsenal players ahead of Sunday's midday kickoff against Southampton.

The Gunners were in Europa League action on Thursday evening, brushing aside BATE Borisov 6-0 at the Emirates Stadium to end their Group H campaign on a high.

Arsenal have around 60 hours to prepare for the Southampton game and, despite as many as 11 changes expected to be made to his starting lineup, Wenger has questioned the Premier League's decision to move the fixture to the earliest possible start time.

"I have nothing against the fact that we have to do that, as long as our opponents have the same recovery days," he told reporters. "That was not the case last week and will not be the case again.

"Between three days and five days is a big gap on the recovery side. If we have to play every day I don't mind as long as our opponents do as well."

Fifth-placed Arsenal follow up Sunday's meeting against Southampton with a trip to West Ham United next Wednesday.
