Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that midfielder Jack Wilshere is beginning to show his "best form for a long time" and can earn a recall to the England squad.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that Jack Wilshere can earn a recall to the England squad by remaining with the Gunners.

Last week, Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate suggested that the midfielder would come under consideration for selection if he gained more playing time with the Gunners, and the 25-year-old was soon linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

However, Wenger has insisted that Wilshere does not have to leave North London in order to feature at next summer's World Cup, claiming that the player is beginning to play to his full potential.

The Frenchman told reporters: "I believe Jack is in the best form for a long time. He is very close to be considered like everyone else.

"He doesn't need to leave Arsenal to go to the World Cup. If he plays like he is at the moment, I think he will go to the World Cup. He has played games for us and he will play many more."

Wilshere has only appeared in the EFL Cup and Europa League this season.
