Arsenal produced a professional away performance to claim a 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers to move to the top of the Premier League table.

Declan Rice and Joao Gomes both threatened to score for their respective sides, before Leandro Trossard opened the scoring on the stroke of half time.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard netted a late second to make sure of the three points and end a three-game winless run in all competitions.

Although they have played a game more, Mikel Arteta's side will be pleased to be sitting one point clear of Manchester City and three points better off than Liverpool.

Trossard puts Arsenal ahead

Arsenal came into the game in second place, knowing that a win would take them above Manchester City, who were competing in the FA Cup semi-finals.

With top spot in their sights, the Gunners made a purposeful start at Molineux, with Rice going close to breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute.

The visitors neatly worked the ball to tee up the midfielder, who sent his low strike fizzing just wide of Jose Sa's goal.

After surviving Arsenal's early pressure, an injury-hit Wolves side provided their own attacking threat just after the half-hour mark when Gomes saw his shot pushed onto the woodwork by David Raya.

Just as it seemed as though the half would finish goalless, Trossard produced a clinical finish to give Arsenal the lead in the 45th minute.

Gabriel Jesus coolly brought down Havertz's lofted ball, before laying it off to Trossard, whose unconventional strike went in off the far post.

Odegaard wraps up precious victory

With Arsenal boasting a narrow half-time lead, Havertz led the quest for an insurance goal in the opening stages of the second period, striking his volleyed effort straight at the untroubled Sa.

As the game entered the final 20 minutes, Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina cut inside on his left foot before forcing Raya into a routine stop.

Instead of protecting their advantage, Arsenal appeared determined to double their advantage in the closing stages, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both drawing smart saves from Sa.

Arsenal's late pressure ultimately paid dividends in the 95th minute when Odegaard squeezed the ball in at the near post after his initial cut-back attempt came back to him.

The Gunners have now won six of their last seven top-flight away games and kept clean sheets in each of their previous six Premier League road trips.

Arsenal will now turn their focus to Tuesday's clash against London rivals Chelsea, while 11th-placed Wolves will prepare for Wednesday's meeting with Gary O'Neil's former club Bournemouth.
