Bayer Leverkusen missed the chance to ensure that they will finish the Champions League as Group C winners, slipping to a 1-0 defeat to AS Monaco this evening.

The Bundesliga side had dominated the match at the BayArena, but the visitors found the back of the net with their only on-target effort of the night.

The result leaves Leverkusen a point ahead of the Ligue 1 side in their group with one match still to play.

Goal

Bernd Leno: The goalkeeper did not have a save to make until Lucas Ocampos burst through in the 72nd minute. It was the only time Monaco tested the stopper, and he failed to make the save. (2/10)

Defence

Emir Spahic: Spahic made a couple of vital contributions in defence, but did pick up a booking, which left him unable to outmuscle Berbatov in the second half. (6/10)

Wendell: The defender showed some promise going forward, creating a few chances for the hosts to open the scoring, but had little to do at the back. (5/10)

Omer Toprak: Toprak was keen to get forward and caused problems for Monaco in the centre. He was not afraid to make a challenge either, restricting Nabil Dirar. (7/10)

Giulio Donati: The right-back was not as keen to get forward as some of his defensive colleagues, but had a tidy if quiet night at the back. (5/10)

Midfield

Son Heung-min: The pacy winger was a key part of Leverkusen's dominance in the first half, setting up a string of chances while also proving a threat himself, but he tired in the second half and was taken off early. (6/10)

Lars Bender: Bender had the best chance of the night for the hosts, rattling the crossbar in the first half, and he continued to contribute to the attack after the break. (7/10)

Gonzalo Castro: Returning from injury, Castro looked a little rusty in the first half, but played a bigger role after the break, particularly working well with Drmic once he had come off the bench. (5/10)

Karim Bellarabi: Bellarabi put in a big shift in the middle, but did not add much going forward for the Bundesliga side before being taken off with just over 10 minutes to go. (4/10)

Attack

Hakan Calhanoglu: It was a frustrating night for the striker, who had a string of chances, but was unable to beat the Monaco keeper, and struggled with his accuracy at times. He did constantly stretch the Monaco defence though. (7/10)

Stefan Kiessling: Kiessling played more of a supporting role for Calhanoglu than looking for the target himself, but he did test the visitors with a couple of promising shots. (6/10)

Substitutes

Josip Drmic: Replacing Son, Drmic provided some much-needed fresh legs up front in the second half, and came close to getting Leverkusen back on level terms a couple of times. (7/10)

Simon Rofles: Rofles replaced Bender inside the final 15 minutes as the hosts tried to get back on level terms, but did not add much before the full-time whistle. (3/10)

Julian Brandt: The young winger replaced Bellarabi to try and find an equaliser, but he saw very little of the ball before the end of the match. (3/10)

Goal

Danijel Subasic: The Monaco keeper was really up against it in the first half, but he pulled off a string of saves, as well as gathering from a few crosses and corners to ensure that the visitors kept a clean sheet. (8/10)

Defence

Aymen Abdennour: The defender was kept busy by Son and Kiessling in the first half, and struggled to keep them at bay at times, but he looked stronger in the second half. (6/10)

Ricardo Carvalho: The centre-back was as solid as ever, leading Monaco's defensive push at the start of the second half to disrupt Leverkusen's dominance. His booking does mean that he will be suspended for their final match of the groups though. (8/10)

Uwe Echiejile: The defender was not afraid to make a challenge as he tried to keep Leverkusen out of the Monaco box, which did see him give away a number of free kicks. (5/10)

Andrea Raggi: Raggi struggled with the pace of the home side's attack in the first half, but made a few solid contributions in the second half. (5/10)

Midfield

Joao Moutinho: Moutinho was as solid as ever on free kick and corner duty for Monaco, but did not see too much action in open play tonight. (6/10)

Tiemoue Bakayoko: Bakayoko managed to get in the way of Drmic late on to prevent the Leverkusen midfielder scoring a late equaliser for the German side. (6/10)

Jeremy Toulalan: The midfielder was one of the team's more creative players going forward, but he did waste a couple of chances with some poor finishes. (7/10)

Attack

Nabil Dirar: It was a mixed night for Dirar. He may have been lucky to stay on the pitch after the referee let him off for a late two-footed challenge on Spahic, but he recovered to provide the cross for the only goal of the night. (6/10)

Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco: The striker was the only bright point in the first half for the visitors, as he caused a few problems for the hosts, but he took a few too many challenges and had to go off early. (7/10)

Dimitar Berbatov: Playing against his former club, Berbatov spent much of the match helping out at the back, and proved capable in defence, before showing off his footwork to launch the move that resulted in Monaco's goal. (8/10)

Substitutes

Lucas Ocampos: The striker replaced Ferreira-Carrasco with 20 minutes to play, and it proved an important introduction, as he had found the back of the net within two minutes, and continued to look sharp up front for the remainder of the match. (8/10)

Fabinho: The left-back replaced Dirar late on to ensure that Monaco saw out the win, and he did the job well, restricting Leverkusen's late chances and marking well while they had a few corners in the closing stages. (5/10)

Lacina Traore: Traore replaced Berbatov in stoppage time, more to help run down the remaining seconds, and he did not see much of the ball before the end of the game. (2/10)
