Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes that striker Christian Benteke would be gambling with his career if he were to leave Villa Park.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert believes that striker Christian Benteke would be under pressure to succeed if he left the club in the summer.

Benteke has been linked with a move to either Tottenham Hotspur or Atletico Madrid during the summer, but Lambert has insisted that the Belgian should continue his development at Villa Park.

The 43-year-old told talkSPORT: "If you take that gamble to move to one of these huge clubs, then you might not play as many games.

"Footballers want to play. If they're hungry enough, then that's half the battle. The pressure on a young player moving is high.

"He's still a young lad learning the game and developing into a man."

The 22-year-old scored 23 goals in 39 appearances during his first season in England.
