Tim Sherwood backs Aston Villa to come good

Tim Sherwood expresses his belief that Aston Villa will start scoring the goals that will fire them to Premier League safety.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood is confident that his side will start scoring goals following their 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United on Saturday.

Villa carved out several chances on Tyneside but could not find a breakthrough, as a Papiss Cisse goal gave the hosts victory.

However, Sherwood believes that Villa will begin to find the back of the net regularly before the end of the season.

He told the club's official website: "It was a much improved performance. We had far more attacking options. We're getting the ball wide, crossing the ball, creating chances for Christian [Benteke] and it will come, surely.

"Sometimes you need to pick your way through and use your brains and your quality. Now is the time to start showing that quality because there isn't a problem with heart and character in that dressing room."

Villa remain 19th in the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety.
