Shay Given says that he will leave Aston Villa this summer.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has revealed that he is likely to leave the club this summer after showdown talks with manager Paul Lambert.

The former Republic of Ireland international spent the vast majority of the recent campaign as understudy to American Brad Guzan.

However, Given insists that he cannot continue to play the role of back-up stopper any longer and is in need of regular match time.

"I had a meeting with [manager] Paul Lambert and we both agreed that I should be playing first-team football. And that's not happening at Villa right now."

Given joined Villa in 2011 from Manchester City.
