New Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has revealed that advice from Robin van Persie helped him decide to move to the Premier League.
Vlaar, who signed for Villa from Feyenoord this week for a fee in the region of £3m, also revealed that he hopes Van Persie stays in England.
The 27-year-old said: "I talked to Robin during the European Championships, when we were together with the national side. He said that if I got the chance to play in England, I should get myself over here – and here I am.
"It will be a big loss if Robin leaves England because he is a great player. And no, he didn't tell me where he might be going."
Vlaar arrives at Villa Park with international experience, playing nine times for Holland.
