Spanish strike decision to be made on Thursday

A decision over whether fixtures in Spain will take place this weekend is expected to be announced on Thursday as the threat of a strike continues to linger.

A decision over the whether fixtures in Spain will take place this weekend will be made by a court on Thursday.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Spanish professional footballers' union (AFE) have threatened to halt fixtures in the top two tiers from this weekend onwards due to a dispute regarding government interference in the league's television rights.

The Spanish Football League (LFP) has challenged the legality of the proposed strike, but the AFE has argued that preventing players from doing so would be a violation of their constitutional rights.

A meeting was held regarding the situation on Wednesday morning, and a decision is expected to be made tomorrow.

"On Thursday we will facilitate the dossier. It's a complicated issue as you can all understand," Ricardo Bodas, president of the high court, told Spanish media.

As things stand, the final two rounds of La Liga fixtures, in addition to the Copa del Rey final, will be amongst the matches affected by the strike.

League leaders Barcelona are due to face reigning champions Atletico Madrid this Sunday, with a win being enough for Barca to clinch the title.
