The agent of Javier Mascherano has claimed that Napoli want to sign his client this summer.
The Argentine has been with Barcelona since 2007, but it is understood that the 29-year-old will seek pastures new this summer after becoming frustrated with his lack of football in midfield.
A number of clubs have been linked with a move, but Bernardo Bavarone has said that the strongest interest has arrived from Italy.
"[Rafael] Benitez would like Mascherano and he's evaluating different options to try signing him. Why does he want to leave Barcelona? The club told him he won't play in the middle of the park, so when choosing his next destination, that will be a fundamental thing," Bovarone told Radio CRC.
"Mascherano feels he is a midfielder and wishes to play in that role. They talk frequently. There is interest and Benitez is not giving up."
Mascherano has played centre-back for Barcelona throughout his Nou Camp career.
