Benfica confirm Julio Cesar capture

Benfica confirm the signing of Brazilian international goalkeeper Julio Cesar on a two-year contract, following his release by Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.

Benfica have confirmed the signing of Brazilian international goalkeeper Julio Cesar on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old was released from the two years that he had remaining on his Queens Park Rangers deal on Tuesday and has now joined up with the Portuguese giants.

Cesar nearly moved to Benfica in January before going on a short-term loan to Toronto FC, and has now agreed to play his football at the Stadium of Light for at least the next two years.

The former Inter Milan stopper was first choice throughout Brazil's World Cup campaign this summer, despite having found himself dropped by Rangers in favour of Robert Green last season.

Cesar made 27 appearances for the Hoops during his one full Premier League campaign at Loftus Road.
