Gary Bowyer slams "soft" Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer blasts his side after seeing them lose to Shrewsbury Town in the first round of the League Cup.

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has hit out at his side following their first-round defeat to Shrewsbury Town in the League Cup.

Rovers were beaten 2-1 by the League One outfit at Ewood Park last night, leading to boos from the crowd at the full-time whistle.

Bowyer has admitted that "soft" defending and a "naive" approach to the game cost the hosts in the end.

"We have to stop conceding silly goals, soft goals. And that's what they were," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. "It was naive from us and when you look at the names on the team sheet, we shouldn't have been naive.

"We can totally understand the frustration of the fans because they know what a cup run is like having been to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup last season, and taking Liverpool to a replay and beating Premiership teams here."

Blackburn continue their Championship campaign on Saturday when they make the trip to Huddersfield Town.
