Bristol City boss Lee Johnson says that a win over Wolverhampton Wanderers would benefit both the Robins and their promotion rivals.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson has suggested that his side need to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening in order to remain in the hunt for the Championship title.

City head into the clash facing an eight-point deficit to the league leaders, who look on course for automatic promotion having recorded 55 points from their 24 games this season.

However, while praising the strength of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad, Johnson has indicated that he will be pushing for all three points which will keep the club in second place.

The 36-year-old told the club's official website: "It'll be a tough game on Saturday but we'll do everything we can to get a result for the City faithful.

"They've spent a lot of money on their squad but it's alright spending money – you still have to get the right players in and they've built a fantastic squad.

"I think from the league's point of view, it's important we win the game to bring Wolves back into us and the rest. It's a big game and the players have to recover, rest up and be ready, including our young lads."

Earlier this season, the two teams played out a 3-3 draw at Molineux.
