Nicky Maynard could turn out for Cardiff City in their final encounter of the Championship season against Hull City on Saturday afternoon.
The summer signing from West Ham United has missed the majority of the campaign with a knee ligament injury that required surgery to mend.
However, despite reports that he would not feature again until the new campaign, manager Malky Mackay has revealed that he has earmarked a place on the bench for the 26-year-old at the weekend.
"Provided my medical team give me the okay this week, and I don't anticipate any problems, Nicky will be named among my substitutes," Wales Online quotes Mackay as saying. "I will do my best then to bring him on at some point if that is possible.
"It's about building the player's confidence up again ahead of next season. It will be very good for him to get a shirt on and get out on the pitch again before going away on holiday. Then he will be back with us to get a really good pre-season under his belt."
Maynard has made just three appearances for the Bluebirds.
