Jose Mourinho: Sam Allardyce a "good choice"

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hails Sam Allardyce's impending appointment as England manager as "a good choice".

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has backed Sam Allardyce as "the right person" to take over the England national side.

Sunderland boss Allardyce is expected to be appointed by the FA in the coming days, just weeks after Roy Hodgson resigned from the post following a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign.

"I think he's the right person for that," Mourinho told reporters at a press conference in China today. "I think he's a good choice but I think he needs support and I think you (the media) can do better in respect of that, because my experience in your country showed me that you [do not].

"Sam never had a big chance at the highest level, he has lots of experience in the Premier League, but never that big one, and now he has the big one - I think he is more than ready. He is a good motivator, he can create a good team spirit with his players and I wish him the best from my side, not just as a friend but as Manchester United manager.

"I promise to try and supply him players and make sure the English players are always available in good condition."

Allardyce was reportedly the FA's second choice in the role after Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger allegedly rejected an approach earlier this month.
