Roberto Martinez: 'Samuel Eto'o choosing Everton is a footballing compliment'

Roberto Martinez says that Samuel Eto'o's decision to sign for Everton is a "footballing compliment".

Roberto Martinez has described Samuel Eto'o's decision to join Everton as a "footballing compliment".

The 33-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Toffees after he was released by Chelsea last season.

"It's a footballing compliment because, as you can imagine, Samuel had many options, especially abroad and especially deals that probably the decision becomes - is it a financial decision or is it a footballing decision?" Martinez said in today's press conference.

"He wanted to make a footballing decision. For him to choose us and see us as a team that can allow his game to shine is a real footballing compliment."

Eto'o could make his debut against former club Chelsea at Goodison Park on Saturday.
