Everton manager Roberto Martinez was coy when asked about the possibility of signing Shakhtar Donetsk playmaker Bernard on Tuesday.
The Blues have been linked with a big-money move for the Brazil international after appearing to concede defeat in the chase for Dynamo Kiev star Andriy Yarmolenko.
However, Martinez said that he was unable to discuss the move for Bernard, while also declining to comment on the reports of the failed Yarmolenko bid which was said to have been around £15m.
The Everton manager told reporters: "I'm sure that [Bernard] has got a few representatives in the UK. I can't go into detail."
Everton have so far added Tom Cleverley and Mason Holgate to their ranks this summer, although the future of John Stones continues to be the subject of speculation, with the defender reportedly handing in a transfer request on Tuesday.
