Los Angeles Galaxy have climbed off the bottom of the Western Conference with a hard-fought win over Portland Timbers at the Home Depot Center.
Todd Dunivant scored the only goal of the game, heading in at the far post from David Beckham's deep in-swinging corner kick on the hour mark.
Timbers goalkeeper Troy Perkins, who was shown a yellow card for his protestations, was furious that the goal was given as he felt that he had been impeded by Landon Donovan.
It was a slow-paced game, in which the best chances all came from set pieces, and Beckham went close to doubling his side's lead late in the second half when his 25-yard free kick shaved the outside of the post.
The victory was Galaxy's first in eight MLS games and the clean sheet was Josh Saunders' first of the season.
