Sean St Ledger "ready" to face Germany

Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger insists that he will be fit enough to face Germany despite not having played since the start of August due to injury.

Republic of Ireland defender Sean St Ledger has insisted that he is "ready" to face Germany despite not having played since the start of August.

St Ledger picked up a knee injury during Leicester City's League Cup match against Wycombe Wanderers on August 6 and has not featured for the Foxes since.

However, the 28-year-old could be in line for a return against Germany due to suspensions to Richard Dunne and John O'Shea, and he insists that he will be fit enough to play if called upon.

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be. It's probably not an ideal situation with not having played, but sometimes things can't always be perfect," St Ledger told PA.

"I'm generally quite fit, so hopefully that will stand me in good stead. I have been back training for a few weeks now.

"Obviously I have not played and I am probably fortunate that I am in the squad with the suspensions, so it's down to me this week to work hard, get my head down and try to force my way into the starting XI."

Ireland, who were beaten 6-1 by Germany in the reverse fixture, will go into the match with interim boss Noel King in charge following Giovanni Trapattoni's departure last month.
