Kenny Dalglish refuses to blame Stuart Pearce over Steven Gerrard

Kenny Dalglish says that he has "respect" for Stuart Pearce and won't blame him for Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has refused to place blame on England's temporary boss Stuart Pearce for Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury.

The Reds skipper picked up the injury after just half an hour into the Three Lions' 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands at Wembley yesterday.

"Until we know exactly what has happened it is difficult for us to presume anything," said Dalglish.

"I have fantastic respect for 'Pearcey'. He played for us (under Dalglish at Newcastle). He is a really straight, honest guy so I don't think he would do anything harmful to the football club."

Gerrard, who had been the favourite to be named England skipper, was overlooked by Pearce, who handed the armband to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Scott Parker.
