Steven Gerrard "absolutely devastated" to be leaving Anfield

Outgoing Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits that he is "absolutely devastated" to know that he will not play at Anfield again.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that he feels "absolutely devastated" to know that he will not be playing at Anfield again.

Gerrard's final home fixture ended in defeat as Crystal Palace came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory, and the Reds captain was unable to hide his emotions ahead of his move to Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.

"It felt very strange. I've been dreading this moment and I'm absolutely devastated I won't be playing in front of these supporters again," Gerrard told the supporters in a post-match presentation. "I have to save my last thank you to these supporters who stand out more than any of them.

"I'd like to thank everyone at the club who's helped me over the last 17 years, from top to bottom. I'd like to thank all the staff who have helped me, and all the ex-players I've played alongside.

"But most of all, I'd like to thank the fans. These supporters here stand out more than any. I've played in front of most supporters around the world, but you are the best."

Gerrard will play his final game for the club against Stoke City next weekend.
