Jurgen Klopp: 'Steven Gerrard is welcome at Melwood, he was here for 500 years'

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp jokes that Steven Gerrard is welcome at Melwood because he played for the club for "500 years".

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked that Steven Gerrard is always welcome at the club's training ground because he was there for "500 years" before joining Los Angeles Galaxy.

There has been talk of the midfielder returning to Melwood to train during the MLS off-season before heading back to the United States in January.

However, Gerrard, who spent 17 years playing for the Reds, is yet to return to the training ground as he is still on holiday.

When asked about a possible return for the former Liverpool captain, Klopp told reporters: "He can use Melwood, he was here for 500 years so that's no problem! Then he can go back to LA and play.

"He is on holiday and that is good. He is enjoying his holiday. He is a really good person, we enjoyed the time. A really, really good guy. If he wants to train, there is no question."

Gerrard is expected to remain at LA Galaxy for one more season.
